Not in my experience. You just picked a bad tuner.

i still don't understand why. the rex engine was not a problem to
begin with in 07
and now it's even more usable in the city traffic. on freeway the rpms
should be
close to 3k so the boost and your beloved HPs are a gas pedal stomp
away.
heck in reviews for 06 it was already noted that you can path in 5th
and
don't have to downshift unlike on 05 and other rexes with 2.0
if you want to autocross there is an sti,
why mess with the rex?
heck, there are event no first driving impressions posted anywhere yet
and people already plan to tune the heck out of the poor thing!
