I think we're about to purchase a new 2025 Crosstrek Wilderness. I don't believe the one on the lot has a hitch already, should we get one ordered from factory with a one or is it the same if the dealer adds it?

I do not believe that there are any "Subaru" hitches. They're out by Curt, Draw-Tite, Reese. U-haul is the same, they're just rebranded.

If there is any warranty connection, which I doubt, it would be about towing weight and car maintenance (oil kept cool and not "worn out" and engine temp kept in check.

Neither. Get a Curt.

I got a factory hitch for my OBW - it did not fit so they send it back.
I am very satisfied that they didn't try to make it fit - that is exactly what I was trying to avoid.
I sold cars for a while, when both parts come from the same source they can't run from the warranty.

Subaru Hitches are part of the rear bumper reinforcement. The are structurally part of the car. Do Curt and Draw-tite crash test there hitches?

They also explained this to me at the dealership, they basically replace the bumper (bar/beam) with a new bar/beam that has the hitch incorporated in it, so it's structurally sound.

This is what I ordered on my new purchase.
