Disconecting Front ABS only

Some Real interesting info from the Insurance Institute for Highway
Saftey, about ABS brakes. I Thought one advantage was braking on ice.
They say it takes longer Everywhere. OK, Steering while braking. Not
too good in an emergency situation, where you might jerk the wheel.
The cars carenned across 2 lane widths and Why a 51% increase in
rollovers, getting sideways? Non ABS cars skidded Straight. Across
the board, More fatal crashes with ABS... Just what I want when I get
my Death Wish..)

Well, take anything from the IIHS with a grain of salt - remember who
funds them, the auto insurance companies. So they have a bias...
Personally, I think the ABS "study" was done simply to give the
insurance companies a reason to stop giving you a (slight) discount
for having an ABS-equipped car, since almost ALL cars come with ABS
now. I expect that in 10 years or so, they will have a "study" to show
that vehicle stability control isn't all it's cracked up to be, once
most cars will be equipped with it at that point. Not that I'm a
conspiracy theorist or anything, I just don't really believe that the
IIHS is totally objective.

Guess I'll be doing my own comparison testing. Braking distances, on
dry, wet, ice, and snow.

Saw a study by NHTSA about police car accidents, that says the
benefit of ABS is 0. Wet weather stopping is improved, but more run
off the road. Maybe being able to steer while braking isn't a benefit.
Will have to remember to Not Do That.)) I always prefered trying to
hit something other than another car. Trees and medial strips won't
sue you.)

I always understood that the benefit of ABS was that it gave you back
steering control at the expense of a slightly longer stopping distance.

So the benefit to braking could be 0 (or even negative) but very useful
for overall vehicle control.

but that steering control is said to lead to More Rollovers. One test
said the car will Careen accross 2 lanes, and a belief seems to be,
that when steering to avoid an accident, the car can go off the road,
and one wheel dig into dirt, causing the roll.

Maybe it's just, which way do you want to die.))
