(#%$&*$@# Autostop/start

Remember. You have two choices. The right wing of the government party or the left wing of the government party. Not a whole heck of a much of a difference. Both are pro tax and spend. Both are pro expanding government power. Both are pro security state. Both are pro spying on citizens "Just because". Both are beholden to big business. Both are anti-free speech. Both are anti-1st, 2nd, 4th amendments. They get to choose who you get to vote for. Get involved with your party at the grassroots level and be vocal. If enough people start to do that, then maybe the politicians will realize that their own party members are not happy with them and may not vote for them no matter how much money they spend. I have all my reps on speed dial and all the emails. I watch what they do and how they vote. It doesn't take that much effort.

As Dick Foster pointed out, you can thank overreaching Big Government "oversight" for such frustratingly annoying functions that you can't disable (without wiring in another, costly device). I also urge all auto owners to remember such invasive, ineffectual, ecological over regulation whenever you vote and vote accordingly. I also understand from multiple sources that this feature actually saves less than a thimble full of gasoline on every tank. It is literally meaningless, and only another "feel good" political manipulation.
Auto-stop-start helps cars get better numbers in the EPA lab test. That's all that counts.

Bullcrap.
Too many instances of battery failures.
I am capable of driving my own vehicle… not in need of a nanny.
I can afford the extra gas, I am not impressed with regulators and bureaucrats that are not elected… they are driven by their masters.

I don’t object to CAFE standards in principle, I just think auto stop/start is a monumentally stupid way to address them. If I were prone to conspiracy theories, I would really wonder if automakers came up with auto stop/start deliberately to get the public to lean on the EPA and Congress to back off. Deliberate or not, let’s all write to our representatives once the new Congress is sworn in.

Believe me, car companies don't come up with this kinda crap. To do something as stupid as auto stop requires gubberment intervention to put into place.

I believe you. I don’t buy into conspiracy theories anyway, although I did say, if the car companies did this, it was to get the government off their backs.

After some real off-road vehicles - 2x Nissan Patrol Station - at an advanced age I was now looking for something off-road capable that is also pleasant to drive on normal roads. As one of my most important criteria is permanent four-wheel drive, I quickly landed on the Subaru Forester, which I have come to know and appreciate on my frequent trips to the USA.
The brand new E-Boxer gem has been sitting in my garage for 3 weeks now, and I am completely satisfied except for one small thing:
The auto start/stop function, which cannot be switched off, not even temporarily, can be quite annoying. I have scanned many a forum in the USA and found quite a few things, but nothing useful for the E-Boxer.
I would like to be able to disable this function - at least temporarily - instead of having to deal with this nonsense.
I would be grateful for any help.

Autostop eliminator works on the Forester. I know because I have one with it.
BTW having been a rock crawler myself, I would not really count a forester among true off road vehicles.
I had a 96 Tacoma that I did a solid axle swap on then added lockers front and rear along with a crawl box. Now that was a real off road rig but only after it was highly modified. Not much rolling off a showroom floor today is going to be truly trail ready.

The problem is that there is no switch in my 2024 Forester e-boxer behind which I could install the Autostop Eliminator. I am living in Germany and the European regulations probably demand that drivers are incapacitated and follow the idiotic woke environmental fantasies unconditionally. The Japanese have probably understood this and only deliver this bullshit feature to Europe.
What I'm looking for is a little trick, even a dirty one, with which I can outwit this nonsense. I don't like having control of my vehicle taken away from me.
I realize that the Forester is not a real off-road vehicle. My two Nissan Patrols were real off-road vehicles. I liked them very much, but now that I'm 76 years old, it can be a bit less off-road.

You probably are stuck with it. You have a hybrid model and those have a completely different electronic management system. Here in the usa, people hate the full screen versions with all the controls behind touch screen. I don't know what they were thinking, but I doubt I'll buy a new Subaru

Thankyou rclarc,
the problem is that there is no button at all.

My Subaru dealer didn't inform me about this bullshit before I bought the car, on the contrary, he even claimed that you could switch it off before every drive. He probably didn't know it himself and was quite surprised when I told him.
But there could still be a workaround: If you switch on the windshield defroster, auto start-stop is deactivated.
I don't know yet whether this would solve the problem in any way, but I'm working on it.
The European and especially German regulatory mania just pisses me off.

I don't know what German car dealers are like, in the US you can get great people who know the cars, and you can get sleazy douchebags who will say anything.

The move to electronic control on everything is long underfoot, there's no avoiding it if you buy a new car. My weekend car is a 1967 Alfa GTV and it is pure driving pleasure for me. I think the entire car has 7 wires.

At 77, I know exactly what you mean. I sold my rig to someone who wanted it for what I built it for and he loves it. I was very lucky to find someone like that to sell it to.
The Auto Stop Eliminator I have plugs into the CAN buss. I'm pretty sure even the German models have the CAN buss. Mine plugged into buss that led to the back up waring box under the drivers seat, others plug into the CAN buss where it connects into the eyesight cameras. You might want to check the Autostop Elimator website for your car.

Thanks for the interesting info. I'll have a look at the website and see if I can find anything there.
