You are absolutly right, as a matter of fact, lets try to count the
countless complaints. I have 85K on my car and it has needed... Oh
NOTHING! Nevermind, I have no complaints. Oh wait, I almost forgot it
needed a new brake caliper once, that cost me $44.00 at autozone. Maybe
I should sell this hunk of crap, quick!

Yet you still offer no recommendations for an alternative.

I suppose the regulars here must be pretty stupid for holding onto their
Subarus - Carl, john, Remco, and the rest - but if I were on the roadside
trying to get my non-Subaru going I'd rather have any of them at my side
than somebody who can only complain.

meh - there's a mercedesproblems and a bmwproblems and a mazdaproblems
and about 3 different VW problems .com sites . There are general
complaint collection sites for all cars with vast anounts of data for
Toyota and Ford and Nissan and Hondas too.

Subaru is not perfect. But it is far from garbage. You just have no life
and find it entertaining here.

You seem to see the glass as 1/16th empty. There are indeed a lot of Subie
owners who have had head gasket problems. There are a lot of Honda/Acura
owners who have had head gasket problems. There are a lot of Saab owners who
have had head gasket problems. I won't go on.... The basis of the problem is
that modern cars use aluminum heads, usually on iron blocks. Fail to cool
the head well and it will warp enough to ruin the head gasket. Subaru canna'
change the laws of physics nor make people follow the procedure when
changing coolant.

I came to this group looking for information about prospects for my next
used car. I assure you: the problems here are not a whit worse than the
typical problems seen with any other make. I'm still undecided about the
next car I'll look for, but Subarus are still in the running if only because
the streets here get bad when the winter storms come through (like one did
yesterday). If I find one with a DOHC, I'll know to check it carefully and
to care for it even better. If I decide on another make, the
alt.autos.whatever forum will undoubtedly have at least one person at any
time who thinks they are garbage. Alt.autos.volvo has two complainers the
last time I counted. None of them anywhere have ever helped anybody.
