2012 Subaru Impreza Retains $17,495 Base Price

Oooops, my apologies to Canadians.

In Canada the new 2012 Impreza will be sold at lower
prices than the outgoing model, ...I guess for a reason.

MISSISSAUGA, ON, Aug. 22, 2011 /CNW/ - Subaru Canada, Inc. (SCI) is
pleased to announce pricing for the all-new 2012 Impreza lineup, which
goes on sale in October. Consumers may not be surprised that the
redesigned fourth-generation Impreza offers significant enhancements
over the previous model... . What might be surprising is the fact that
Subaru is offering the new Impreza at prices that are lower than the
previous model—at every single trim level.

**Hahaha! How typical. I'm debating the Legacy line now but they look
so chunky compared to the previous version (which I really liked). Are
there any models in the present Subaru line-up that you prefer?

I like the Legacy very much, with its new and hopefully
head gasket problem free engine, ....but the car has a
big, big, engineering flaw.

Google legacy + steering + shake.

I hoped the new Impreza would be an improvement
over the old.

It turns out it is a step down, in terms of power,
....as Subaru tries to go after people demanding
extreme fuel efficiency and AWD.

Right now, no. The Imprezza lost it's unique look, the Legacy/Outback
bloated out, the SVT is gone. Bring back the 360....

**You know, I actually knew about the "shakers" from here and on a VW
forum. I just plum forgot when I typed that last post. Recently, I had
to drop by the dealership for some work, I picked up the promotional
material for the 2011 Impreza and the 2011 Forester and avoided the
Legacy. It's sad because I was pondering the Outback version.

Subaru loaned me a new premium version of the Forester while working
on my car and it was very nice! Sorry to pick your brain like this,
but any thoughts on the Forester? Problems, likes?

Why should synthetic oil be used? Is this what is specified in the
manual?

If you have read the magazine that Subaru sends out to everyone who has
bought a Subaru recently, you would have read that the new engines
require synthetic oil. In fact when first announced they said you had
to use Subaru-Branded synthetic oil, then in the next issue they
clarified that it does not have to be Subaru branded.
You should be using synthetic oil anyway.  Go to Walmart and get 5
quarts for under $20. Get a Supertech filter do it yourself and youre
still cheaper than a garage plus you know the job was done right.

Oh Subaru. My car goes off-lease near the end of October and the new
models are out in November. What to do now?

A more in-depth article on the new Impreza:

Tje thing that bugs me about the new Impreza is that while it gets
better gas mileage than the previous Impreza, it requires the use of
synthetic oil.  I wonder if anyone has worked the numbers to see if the
increased cost of every oil change cancels the savings from the better
gas mileage?

I don't consider myself that old- Forester is just out
of the question.

It is a good car, though it has some problems.
The Impreza derived cage is rather weak, structurally,
for an SUV, and this leads to all sorts of interior
rattles, that can not be fixed. Putting a strut
tower brace, in front, might help stiffen the chassis
and prevent some of the rattles from developing.

Other than that, I think it a fine SUV.
Go for it if you like SUV's.
