tire replacement

I was recently in an accident with a 2006 Baja......one of the rear tires
was punctured through the sidewall.....insurance will pay for that
tire......should I replace more than just the one tire? at least the other
rear tire or should I replace them all?

If the tires are half or more worn, you probably should replace all 4 or
have the new one shaved to the same circumference as the othher 3. You
can find Subaru info to show the insurance company recommending tire
circumference be within 1/4". Try searching this newsgroup. This issue
comes up regularly, often in connection with 'torque bind' problems.

Try to pressure the insurance company into paying for all new tires.
Stress the fact this is an AWD vehicle and all the tires have to
match.

It probably says in your owner's manual that you SHOULD replace all 4
at once. If the insurance company won't do that, then you can probably
be safe replacing just 2 (the ones on the same axle). My Audi
recommends doing that at a minimum and it's a similar AWD system.

If you do not follow the 'within 1/4 inch circumference'
reccomendation, and have no center differential (not sure about the
Baja's, I think they have the 1/4 inch restriction) it can lead to a
fairly expensive repair.

Tire Rack (www.tirerack.com) will shave tires for you prior to
shipping.
