Subaru should be the official car of winter.

N

news

We just got dumped with about 8-12" of snow.
I decided to take my daughter to visit grandma instead of snowblowing my
driveway.
The roads were still pretty ugly - I probably should have stayed home.
My 02 Legacy never got stuck. Never seen traction like that in the
winter - it just pulls, but you can toss it around a bit and it just
feels "right" when the roads turn to crap.

And it only has Canadian Tire all season radials on it - I never did get
around to doing snows. I'd probably not even have had to slow down with
snows... so maybe it's best I don't get them.

I'm with ya'!

I still miss my Subie, but need my truck. I soooo wanted to ditch
the Wrangler and have my wife drive the OBW. I couldn't pry her
fingers off the Wrangler's steering wheel no matter how superior the
OBW drove. If only the Wrangler or OBW could have towed my
woodworking trailer... 8^(

NOTHING was as good as my OBW in the snow!

Subarus are amazing in the snow but my 04 will be my last Subaru until
they redesign them and make the outback unique and special again. I'll
buy a regular 4wd and still have no problem in snow and have a vehicle
with decent styling instead of the ugly crap subaru has put out in the
last three years. My 94 Trooper got me home (55 miles) with only 2WD
in an awful storm when I didnt know the 4wd was out- (idiots who did
brake job did not properly clip the locking hub to axle shaft)

My picky wife just drools over the Legacy sedan shape. I think
it's almost identical to the shape of the OB Sedan (which she does not
drool over :)
A beauty is in the eye of the beholder :)
I like 05-06 Impreza sedan and wagon shape. Probably the best looking
Impreza ever. Legacy on the other hand... give me the late 90s shape
and get the Frenchman back tot he design team!
FHI can't please everyone you see.

That's the problem- the new legacys were designed to appeal to women.
SEats dont go back enough - I'm only 6' and typical "safe" jap styling.
Not for me. If subaru puts the raised roof back and the big foglights
I'll consider it.

I periodically see Jeep Liberties with the driving lights on roof
sticking out and
getting into the way of airflow. Maybe it's your thing and are
appropriate
for a truck, but I'd avoid those like a plague. I think large boobs
would look
out of place on a Subaru. I'm 100% sold on the flat chested look
of compact PIAAs. Saw two late model Outback XTs in a parking lot
today:
looked good to me now that two tone paint jobs are gone.

You noticed the shrunken seat (drivers) travel on the newer ones too? I
thought I was suddenly gaining about 3" in height when I drove a 2006
OBW loaner. (I drive a 2000 OBW)

The foglights were a distinctive feature and without them being large
there is no difference between the outback and legacy

I haven't tried the driver's seat, but the passenger's was comfy (I'm
5'10" though) on Legacy 07. The lower cushion did not have the
aggressive side bolsters that my outback zerosport has. Gotta try the
driver's seat in Legacy at the next year show.
For me it's a moot point anyway with RX-8 and possibly Evo in the pipe.
LGT being is a distant third.

Did you give aftermarket Recaro set a thought? Some should be quite
comfortable
and some imitation at a local pepboys does not look bad either.

I'm not totally satisfied with the seat (driver's side) in my '00 OBW,
but I'll take the stock heated leather seat over a Recaro any day.

BTW, I'm 5'11" with short (29") legs. If *I* have a problem with seat
travel, it's a problem for lots of people!

Did you try the base model with the manual seat adjusters
or the power draining seats in the Limited>

What's a "power draining seat"?

It's not like they rob horsepower when you're not moving them. <G>
They draw nothing once they're in place.

Power seats are also nicely adjustable to suit changing comfort on
long trips, which is much more difficult, possibly even dangerous, to
do on manual seats while moving.

I have a nasty habit of going to autoshows since it's a pressure free
environment (unlike your average dealer's lot) and unless the car
is somehow in acc mode (how do they do it? hook up to
an external power outlet under a car or something?)
you won't be able to move a power seat. And since you won't be able to
move it
you're bound to find that it's too close to the pedals or too far
and there is no way to find out whether you'd be comfortable in that
seat.
I think I had that exact problem with S4 avant lately.
There was no power and I could not budge the seat.
On the other hand Civic Si that did not need any power for seat
adjustment
but nevertheless did have the accessory power on.
I have no problem adjusting manual seats in motion on infrequent
occasions
that I failed to do so when parked. With a little bit of practice that
kind
of circus is almost fun :)

So, you don't drive your cars, you park them at auto shows? 8^)
