SUBARU 2000 IPREZA SERVICE MANUAL...$200?

I'm new to Subaru...and I have no idea why...but the service manual for a 2000 Subaru Impreza...turns out to be an 8 volume set costing $100 plus!!! (if you can find them).
Does anyone know if a simple Chilton's manual for the 2002 Impreza (actually avail in one volume) will cover (most) of the Impreza 2000 basic repair? I am an experienced back yard mechanic.
