Dunno about the above???

You say 'adequate' level. If it is near the low mark, the float/whatever
in the reservoir maybe be reacting to cool mornings or vehicle motion.
Also, if the reservoir has not been 'topped off', low fluid level will
mean brake pads are getting thin (or a leak has formed). Of course,
rarely, it could be a problem of some type.

Have the pads inspected for wear.

I interpreted it to be the 'brake light'. Is the light you see the same
as the one illuminated when setting the handbrake? Or is it the ABS light?

maybe I'm confused! sorry

its not the "caution" handbrake light its an actual indication STOP LAMP
just abit next to the handbrake light it normally comes on (atv times that
is ) when you press on the brakes and the brakes function okay

Perhaps you have a burned out or intermittent brake light?(tail light)
(sometimes, in dual element bulbs, one element can sag and make contact
with the other.)

otherwise I have no idea.

Have you done the obvious and have someone stand on the brake while you
checked that ALL filaments in the stop lamps were working ??

I created that problem for myself when I wired up the lights for a
trailer on a 90 GT Wagon. Tapped into the tail light wiring just before
the bulbs. Whenever I was towing the trailer and used the footbrake the
"stoplamp" would light on the dash.

I suspect that the electronics detected that the stoplights were drawing
more current and flashed the warning.

I would start looking for a short.
