Back a few months ago, there were several discussions about how the STi
would perform in snow. Many believed it would be terrible because of the
way the DCCD works.
I have 205/50R17 Pirelli P210s on it, and now that we have had snow, I can
tell you, the thing is incredible in snow. If the DCCD is left in Auto, the
thing drives more like a RWD when you first take off. Then the DCCD does
its thing, and the car straightens up and pulls. If there is very little
traction, like ion ice, then I put the DCCD in manual on full LOCK. The car
will accelerate in a dead-straight line on ice; no problem.
While half of my neighbours, with their SUVs, can't get up my hill, the STi
plows through the snow quite happily, and annoys the neighbours at the sight
of a goofy-looking winged car leaving the snowplow in a cloud of blowing
snow.
It is a great car in the snow, just like all scoobies.
