I have a 2009 Forester with a non turbo EJ25 engine. Recently the #1 rod bearing let go. it caused enough damage to the crank that it will need to be machined. Finding a machine shop and the cost I was wondering if just replacing the crank would be better. My question is the specs on the crank vary from different suppliers. For example all refer to a 79mm or 83mm. i am assuming that is referring to the stroke. I am also assuming that a longer stroke affect the heads. If anyone can shine some light on crank specs so I don't get the wrong one would be much appreciated.

Might also be the diameter of the main and or rod journals. I don't believe it is stroke...
