Replaced 05 2.5t with Japanese 2.0t.

I replaced my 2.5 with a similar 2.0 that was one of those low milage engines advertised on eBay. The change over went pretty smooth and the car starts with no check engine light. BUT it won't run very long are even accelerate. Soooo. Here is the only difference I have but it is a deusy, the 2.5 is a dohc with variable intake cams and non variable exhaust cams. The 2.0 is a Dohc with all 4 cams variable. I changed out the cam exhaust cam sprockets and seals but left the solenoids. The 2.5 didn't even have the solenoids machined and of course lacked the connectors. So here's my question.
Should I replace the variable cam sprockets and slave the exhaust cams to the intake cams?
