I decided to tackle the much hated wheel bearing job. Agreed it's a bitch and my car is as nice as it can be for a 2013. I managed to finish up one side after alot of pounding. Now to the other one, I managed to release the backing plate with the bearing stuck to it. How do you get it loose from the backing plate ?

Any pics? The wheel bearings I've done used a press to remove and install. Hammering them might damage them and greatly reduce their usable life.

I got it loose this morning. The corrosion between the upright and the bearing make it a very tough job. Thanks for your input

I did my Tacomas front wheel bearings once. It was a major PITA. After topping out a 50 ton press and nothing yielding I went to an 80. At about 70 the wheel bearing assy exploded, sending shrapnel all over. It was the way Timken made the assy with the tapers facing opposite that made it hard to do.
I also cut the backing plates making them two piece and easy to remove in future.
After that, I always recommend taking it to a pro and let them deal with it.
Eventually I swapped out the front axle to a US made Dana solid axle. Wheel bearings were much more straight forward to replace or service. Still a dirty job and a minor pain but very much doable.

The last one I did, on a Legacy.

That one looks to be straight forward. Need a bearing puller of some sort but thats all it should take. In the pic. that race looks to be toast. Time it was changed.
