Possible Good Deals on '04

A

Alan

I was in the dealer earlier this week for a minor warantee repair. While I
was waiting, I walked around and noticed that a truckload of new cars were
coming in. I thought they might have been the '05s, but they turned out to
be '04s. I talked to one of the sales guys, and he told me that they had
ordered a bunch of '04s to hold them thru May, till the '05s came in (the
sell about 2 cars a day). Anyway, he said that Subaru had since moved up the
date on the '05s and they will be coming in sooner (next week) than
expected. This means they will be stuck with extra '04s, so there should be
some good deals on them. The dealer is Colonial Subaru/VW in Feasterville,
PA. Keep in mind, this is just my take on the situation.

I learned this tidbit in a similar trip to my local dealer: the 05's
are supposedly very different in body styling--the new generation if
you will.

In addition to getting a good deal on 04's, you'll be getting the
last, most mature year of a generation versus the first run of a major
production change. Traditional wisdom says it's worth waiting a bit
for them to work out the kinks a while and not be too eager to be the
first on yer block with a new one. :)

The '05 Legacy series is brand new. I saw an OBW- very nice. The sales guy
said there are major changes in the sedan, especially the rear.

I just bought an '04 35th Anniversary wagon 5spd silver that listed for
22,700 for 18,000 cash, and got 3.9 financing thru the dealer. Price
included 1000 cashback.

I was first on the block with a 2000 OBW and it proved to be the most
reliable and dependable car I have ever had. I plan on being first on the
block with a 2005 OBW!

They ruined the interior. Too maxima looking. Also too pricy. Subaru will hurt
themselves by going upscale

In Jan I got an OBw with sticker of 25.600 for 19.800 with 3.9 and 1000. Only
the Baja had better deals

I'm looking for a 2004 Forester XT Premium. As the 2005 models are
currently trickling in, I imagine
that I'd be able to get a fairly good deal on a 2004 model. Has
anybody bought one recently?
How much?

I'm wondering if something like $21K is possible...

Best quote I got for a XT prem & leather package was - $25174/-
in East Bay near San Francisco.

I am also in the market for a Forester. I cannot make up my mind on
whether to wait for 2005s or go for 2004. I like the XS trim for
their fuel economy. So I am not sure if it is worth the wait for
2005s. Unless, they have improved rear seats.

Yet another person in the same boat and I am also leaning towards the
XS trim for the same reason. The best quote I have for the XS prem and
leather package is roughly about $1400 below invoice (the quotes range
from $300 below invoice to $1400 below invoice for the four dealers I
am talking to, these are all Internet quotes).

Should I be negotiating harder (I have hardly tried thus far, these
are their first quotes)?

The way these dealers knock off every grand was amazingly educational.
Over the weekend, I went and test drove Toyota Highlander. The
vehicle I test drove was a limited edition with leather package. He
said it would sell for 29K before the test drive. After the test
drive he started at 27K. And throughout the test drive I only praised
the car (the ride was good!). The best internet quote I had received
for these vehicle was approx 28K.

So my point is, you may be able to go unimaginably low price on these
vehicles especially since they want to make room for the '05s.

Most car makers give the dealers holdbacks of about 3% for each car they sell.
So if they take a grand off for you toyota etc gives it back.. Used cars and
service is where they make the most. Anyone paying more than $500 over invoice
on a new car is a sucker.

How does your left arm feel sitting on the non-shelf door when you drive?

toyoya certianlly cut some corners (and money/comfort) buy making that small
enough for a 11 year old....WHILE DRIVING!

You get what you pay for

Hmmmm????

Most toyota buyers are paying about $2500 over invoice. Its the american
cars that are discounting..Thus the depreciation the Toyota delars
mention...Its all a number game
