Poor Cruise Control Performance

I have a 2023 Imprezza with the adaptive cruise control and I'm finding it does a very poor job of controlling speed. If I set it for say 35, I find that the speed varies between 32 and 38 and doesn't hold the speed steady. I previously had a Honda Civic that also had adaptive cruise control and when you set it at 35 it stayed at 35. Is this just a bad design or is there something wrong with my car.

We have a 2023 Impreza and a 2024 Crosstrek. Adaptive cruise control works quite well, allowing for occasional slowdowns at the bottom of a steep hill. It also gets faked out by suburban roads that have sharp turns--slams on the brakes needlessly.
