Passenger Side Front Brake Makes Noise

T

I have a 2006 2.5x Forester and most every time I apply the brakes I
hear a click type noise not a squeal noise and its not a wear
indicator. The problem was first diagnosed as a suspension problem
but no problem found and then it was determined that the rotor had
excess play in it (back and forth) caused by a loose axle nut causing
the brakes pads to make noise and that fix made it better but noise
still present. You can also hear the noise while backing the car up
after its been sitting a while. Could a brake pad be loose in the
caliper causing the noise?

Not impossible. The previous loose rotor may have caused uneven wear on the
pads. May have also caused wear on the caliper slides. Its unlikely to be a
ball joint on a 2006. Either way, the caliper has to come off for inspection
of the pads. If the pads are worn more on the leading edge, replace the
pads. Inspect and lube the slides at the same time.
