I have a new 2020 Outback XT Touring in Magnetite gray. The paint appears to have fine line scratches around the door and rear panels. Seems that if I brush up against it with a soft jacket it scratches. The paint appears to be as thin as a paint can be and no protection. Is this how the Subaru factory 'rolls'?

You have to report it to the dealer, give them a chance to fix the situation. The car is under warranty and the dealer will be paid by Subaru to fix the paint. The dealer wants you to be happy with the car so you will become a customer for a long time. Try it and see if the don't want to help you. Let us know how you make out with the dealer. I know my dealer would fix it for me and why I have my second Subaru from the same dealer.
