The other day I changed the oil, oil filter, air filter and the plugs. Had the car up on my lift because I had been hearing a clicking noise. So, I started the car, put it in drive and lift the car up and was listening for the clicking noise (sounded like it was coming from the transmission), but also checked the axle boots, brought the car back down, put the car in park, and turned it off. Finished cleaning up and start the car to drive it out of the shop; that's when I noticed nearly every dash light was on. So I pulled out my OBD reader and found error code P0500, for the life me I can't figure out why the car is throwing a code. When I changed the plugs I did remove the battery to get at the plugs on the left side of the engine, but before I did that I put an alternative power source in and attached its OBD plug into the car's OPD port. I've done this before when I replaced the battery so as the car's memory wouldn't be lost. After doing some research I decided it was not safe for my wife to drive the car because the error code pertains the ABS brake system. I ended up calling AAA and having the car towed to the dealership. Any thoughts on why the car would throw a P0500 code?

Ok, an update on my error code P50500. The dealership called me back and said they found the reason for the code. The transmission had a bearing that had gone bad. I had been hearing a clicking sound at low speeds. Having owned a 1995 Subaru Outback I thought it was probably one of the front axles going bad. So, as I mentioned I checked the front axles, no play and no clicking. The dealership told me I had 100,000 mile warranty and the transmission was covered my deductible is $100.00. Now to get my car back.

Ended up paying $139 because they checked the wheel alignment. Certainly better than paying almost $7K. Wife said it drives great.
