Outside Temp Indicator reading low

L

Larry Weil

I have a 2008 Impreza 2.5i. Lately the outside temperature has been
reading about 5 degrees (F) low, more so when it¹s raining or after I go
thru a car wash. I suspect that I could correct this by re-seating the
connector to the temperature probe and cleaning the contacts.

So, does anyone know where the outside temperature sensor is located on
this car, and how to get to the connector?

Thanks for your help.

I dunno about an 08, but, look behind the front bumper. Be careful
because there is airbag sensor stuff under there too I think.

It's difficult to make car-based thermometers work well. And i think
the ECU has some complex decisions it makes about what to display. If
your car sits for less than an hour, it will display the previous
reading IF it's cooler. And if you're driving slowly, I think it won't
update to a warmer temp as it thinks engine heat is affecting the
reading. Anyway - it's weird.

We have a 2011 Outback that shows the correct temperature.

On our Acura TL, you can adjust the temperature reading from the computer
menu. It can be adjusted plus or minus 3 degrees. It's much easier than
taking it back to the dealer.

Perhaps there is a consumer adjustment on your Impreza as well.

Good Luck.

I don¹t think so, there¹s nothing I could find in the owners manual.

I still think it¹s a corroded connection, as the discrepancy is greater
in humid weather or when it rains.
