No sound through audio speakers

Good morning, I recently purchased a 2001 Subaru Forester S. The vehicle still had the factory sound system and it was only producing sound out of the drivers side front speaker. Not a big deal as I planned on in stalling an aftermarket stereo and new speakers. I have completed the install but I am still getting no sound through my speakers and my deck powers up for a minute or so then displays an Amp fault. Can anyone help me with this issue?
