Hey All,

Nice to meet you all and thank you for taking time to read this post.

I need advise on what car I should I get for my kid who has been driving now for a year although is somewhat a risky driver . Just did a rear end of my the car is totaled. Car (SUV) didn't have the auto braking system or warning systems. It was not totally my kids fault looking the footage from dashcam but I will leave it up to lawyers to fight.

I need to get my kid another car asap and I don't have a lot of cash in hand. Plus, safety is now my immense concern!!

Obviously, Subaru is the best for safety although I needed to know some details on year/model/trim etc....

- Eye sight is good and it went through some iterations. Which year iteration is good to start with?
- I also will need blind spot, rear camera and rear traffic stop, lane keep assist navigation etc
- SUVs are better than Sedans for my kid. So leaning towards Foresters, CrossTrek etc but I don't know which year to begin with and with what trim which had the safety features included and still is an enjoyable car. This should not look like a punishment but a helping aid to my kid to she can grow up with the car.

I live in Central NJ, so if there is any good reputable dealer out there please do recommend that as well.

I appreciate your advise and I really appreciate your time again.

I have a 2016 Outback. They didn't come with auto door locks until a few years later; that was such old option on other cars who thought to notice. It came with a motorcycle battery which had to be replace with a car size -why Subaru did that is unknown. Backup camera works nice. Noticed the auto brake system works on highway speeds; in town it beeps but doesn't stop the car that I have noticed. One time was slowing down due to red light, was going about 3 miles an hour and sneezed, almost hit the car in front of me, it didn't beep or apply brakes so not sure how fast you have to be going for auto brakes to work but they do work on highways. Every year something acts up. I'm not impressed with Subaru and will not buy another; my mechanic says ppl love them but spend $1000 each year to fix something. Lane assist helps on highways by making steering stiffer and slightly follows the edge line but for some odd reason it doesn't work in WV. Blind spot works but seems like nearly every car offers that. My son had a Forester that was a few years older than mine, it had an oil leak problem that year on their cars and he spent a lot of money to fix a manufacturing defect. The only good thing I have to say is I'm supposed to survive an accident (which would be nice.) The GPS works correctly sometimes even after they replaced it due to known problems with it.
