MotorTrend picks Subaru Forester as the Sport/Utility Of The Year

Who needs 9" ground clearance? I need a car that handles well (on road). Why
did they ditch limited slip differential?
My next car will be Audi.

You have a point.

I like the new Forester, but it is a classic SUV.
Why did Subaru ditch the old Forester formula and go
with SUV, I cannot undertsnd, and they did it just as
SUV's started becoming less popular. Go figure.

Audi is nice, but people complain about reliability.
There is the Impreza Outback, which is very nice
and you may consider. Handles better than the
Forester, and retains a bit of a raised suspension.
I am considering this car for replacement of my
Impreza L Coupe. Subaru prices it a bit high, though.
Nothing's perfect.

Impreza Outback isn't in same class as A4 - WRX is closer. But WRX fuel
economy is worse than A4, back seats are very tight, and there's virtually
no cargo space available (A4 wagon has very little cargo room too, but sedan
version got large trunk). If Legacy wagon was available, it would be a very
good choice for me, but Outback has huge ground clearance (same as
Forester) - so it probably doesn't handle much better. Is Outback XT
sportier than the base model and than the H6?

I took delivery of my 2009 Forester this week. My wife and I love
it. It drives very well on the road.

I live in rural New Hampshire with my wife, 2 kids and dog. The new
Forester is a great fit for us: a small, yet roomie, SUV that gets
good gas mileage and has Subaru all wheel drive technology. The
people that I work with who own the old Forester say that they wish
their's had the room, especially in the cargo area, that mine has.
