Legacy 2.0 GLs '96 Questions (UK)

So, I let myself be drawn by the lure of Subaru. I even bought it
before doing serious research and will just have to accept the
consequences...

What I already know: Yes, I should have gone for a bigger engine
version, but you b**st*rds just aren't selling them. Yes, I know there
are about 6 truly experienced Scooby techies working in the UK, and I
hope they get paid shedloads of money for it, so my lack of mechanical
skill & inclination puts me at their mercy. Yes, I *am* a Subaru
newbie and will gratefully read all the advice you have to give (thank
you in advance).

My Nissan Primera (Altima to you US folk) finally died after more than
220K hard miles so I chose to stick to a Japanese brand. I just wish
it had done so later in the year - much, much later, like 2008...

This is what I want to know: Where the hell do I get a proper service
manual?! Haynes don't make one and Subaru won't sell me one. Not so I
can tear the car apart, but to use as a comfort blanket and let my
local garage peek into after I walk away when left with them to fix
stuff.

What should I be aware of from your experiences and what should I do
to make it last as long as my old Nissan?

Who knows, I may stick around to ask the same questions about another
Scooby if this one does me proud...

Thanks again,

Juan

Ps. the positive general feedback around the web is encouraging!

er I think you may find Haynes
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/t...104-1765506-5604732?v=glance&s=books&n=507846
covers the 2litre I got a copy which despite the blurb doesnt cover the 1.8
so I traded it in for Chiltons Legacy manual 85-96 which is not the best
manual in the world but at least does give me some info of course you could
always go for the twin turbo 2litre which I am assured by a scooby pro is
good for well in excess of 180mph on the autobahn once it has been chipped.
I was offered a minter estate for £3500 just a bit skint at the present
