intermittent low fluid light

I have a 2012 outback with a 3.6 r engine. I keep getting this light showing low radiator fluid intermittently. I can go to work in the morning and there isn't a light and then when I start the care to go home, it will come on. Sometimes it stays on until I get home. Sometimes it will go out on the way home.
I just hope this isn't a warning sign of a leaking head gasket or a bad water pump. Has anyone else had or seen this problem?
