How Determine Engine Size on '86 Subaru DL 4WD Wagon

G

Gregg

I know nothing about cars, but I have to change the spark plugs and plug
wires on an '86 Subaru DL Wagon 4WD. How do I tell what size the engine is
in order to install the correct plug wires?

Pep Boys says there is a 1.6, 1.8, & 1.8 Turbo size. I can't tell the
difference. Any help?

I don't think they ever used a 1.6 on any of the 4WD models,
so see if it has a turbo. I'm betting 99% that it's the
non-turbo 1.8.

Again, a difficult question - how do I know if its a Turbo? Anything quick
I can look for?

Thanks,

(I also have never seen a 4WD '86 with a 1.6 engine - only 1.8.)
The Turbocharger. <G>

Follow the exhaust pipe.

Don't the turbo versions also say "Turbo" on the back of the car?

OK, try this.

1. Find the engine. You do know where that is? OK, OK, its in front
of the steering wheel, under the hood.

2. Find the little plate under the hood that has all the engine
details. Its usually near the front clip.

3. Try looking at this website, it has a nice rundown of specs. The
1985 MY is the one with the best details:

Anyway, according to it, DL wagons got a 1.8L engine.

Can't be a turbo equiped because it is a DL. Turbo option only available
on the GL and GL-10 models. Look for a casting more or less on the front
of the engine block. Should find EA82 inside a box. This means you have
the 1.8 liter engine. You don't have the fuel injection engine so just
tell the guy behind the counter you need plug wires for a 1.8 liter engine
(EA82) with a carburator.

Like the other guy said, look (have someone who
knows what one looks like) for it.

Trunk badges come and go, kids steal em/swap
em etc...can't go by those!
