I'm convinced that the Hill Holder is coming on at random because it is "broke." Driving down the street, the brakes come on all by themselves and I have to violently stab the brake pedal to make them release. Also there is something "catching" when I use the clutch. This is intermittent; as long as there is smooth clutch operation, no problem with the brakes coming on. As soon as the clutch starts having that "catch" in it, the brakes will come on at random, which is making the car very difficult to drive. I took it one place and they put in $700 of new front brakes that were not needed and had no effect on the problem. The real problem now is finding a mechanic who is willing to listen to the symptoms and actually THINK rather than saying "we'll ask the computer and find out what is REALLY wrong." What is really wrong is that the brakes are coming on at random when the clutch has a catch in it; that is the hill holder needing disconnection or replacement. I've seen other posts here were the car "would not accelerate" and the hill holder light came on, and .... well if the brakes are on because the hill holder is acting up, then the car would not accelerate. Neither will mine when the brakes are on. I don't know if that other fellow ever got his fixed or not; they were fixing everything under the sun except the actual hill holder mechanism.
