head gasket; warranty

(1)I am almost closing a deal in buying 2005 Legacy GT. So, about
extended warranty, aside from following maintenance schedule,
(a)what should I be aware of so that the extended warranty wouldn't get
revoked?
(b)Also, what should I be aware of so that manufactures warranty
wouldn't get revoked, if that can happen?
(c)Can doing oil change at a place other than dealer rise to revoking
manuafacturer's warranty or extended warranty revoked?


(2)A thread I saw today about head gasket reminded me of the thread I
saw a while back about head gasket in Subaru. Though not specifically
about the turbo, I read up on how the car engine works at "How Stuff
works site". (I have seen the parts of an engine last fall when I
joined an automechanic class though i didn't stick around till th end
due to time constraint); I plan to educate myself on how everything
works in my new car. What symptoms should I keep in mind to detect
head gasket problem?

Just follow the maintenance schedule and document it wherever or
however it happens.

warranty period? If so, what grounds did they give.

Smoke billowing out of the car as antifreeze spills out onto the hot
engine block is a good sign of a head gasket failure, as is magical
disappearance of coolant.

It's not the price but I want one w/o spoiler (I'll still pay the same
price) but it seems like I have to live with the spoiler.

FYI, when I had Honda Civic, initially, there was a worry that head
gasket was a problem because of the sensor light on. At the time, I
didn't even know what "head gastket". It just so happened that a
classmate has a brother-in-law with auto repair shop and they did the
testing and found out that due to the heat from the engine, the sensor
light bulb (or somehhting like that got burned). Luckily, I wasn't
ripped off during that event unlike some other event.

Nope... nuttin... I did all my own maintenance. I had a trans problem at
41K and piston slap requiring 4 new pistions. All done under Subaru
warranty.

You may be able to trade trunks with someone that has a model without
the spoiler. Aske here and at www.usmb.net and at www.nasioc.com in the
appropriate forums.

I see folks trading stuff like that frequently on those forums.

The 2.5 turbo motors have a semi-closed deck block. I have a feeling that the gaskets won't be an
problem on those the same way they're not a problem on the semi-closed deck 2.0 WRX. -Danny

HAHAHAHA....Honda has a "Blown Headgasket" light??

You will know when it lets go,BITCH...... the exhaust will smell a lot like
your vagina....oops wait...that smells all the time.....

As you know, our '98 is being repaired at the moment. From messages
here, you shouldn't have a problem with the '05 engine.

However, for others here, I distinctly recall gurgling noises from
the engine every time I parked it. This for at least a couple of
years before gasket failure. Having read about this, I think that
the noises are an indication that there's air in the coolant,
which is the primary cause of gasket failure. If your car gurgles
when you park it, it either hasn't been bled correctly and will
fail soon, or you already have early gasket failure.

My friend has a '99 Forester.
His head gasket failed; both were replaced under warranty.
A few symptoms of head gasket failure are water leaks and/or foaming in
the oil, usually noticed at the oil fill cap.

How long is the standard warranty ? I've got a '99 with 160K miles that
probably needs a new head gasket and is probably way way over any
warranty!
