Front axle replacement??

Anybody here have a front axle on their Forrester go out? Mine has 76,000 miles 15,000 miles past warranty. Dealership is quoting $1100. I’m finding it for 700 through a private mechanic using a Subaru part or $400 using an off brand off market part. Any thoughts thanks

No but when I was a rock crawler I had replacing CV axels down to a 30min job and I carried two spare axles with me. It was no big deal to me. I forgot how much they cost but it wasn't that much. Aftermarket guarenteed not to break but I could break them at will.

I’m not a rock crawler by any means but do like taking the occasional fire road once in a while.

The point was the explain just how easy and quick the repair is so you aren't BSd by the mechanics out there.
