The timing belt tensioner broke on my 2005 Forester 2.5 SOHC non turbo. Started getting a P0301 code.
I replaced the tensioner and put it back together. Still getting P0301 code. There is no spark to number 1 plug (verified with a timing light) and no compression on the number 1 cylinder (verified with a compression tester.) All other cylinders have good spark and compression. I have replaced the coil, wires and plugs. Is it normal for the computer to prevent a plug from getting spark if there is zero compression?
Are there any other possibilities other than a bent valve on number 1? I have removed the head as seen below. Number 1 is on the right. Is there a way to see a bent valve without taking the head apart? The car has about 160,000 mile on it.
Thanks for any advice.
