Crosstrek Hatch Lock Wierdness

Out of the blue my 2019 Crosstrek hatch lock is behaving strange. Even when I firmly close the hatch and confirm it's definitely shut, in just a few minutes it will "unlock itself". I will hear a clunking noise, yet the dash indicator shows its NOT open. Then I will pull over and check to find an unhatched lock. The gate stays down but i can open it without depressing the release button. While I try to figure out the problem (and without spending $300 just for a dealer to look at it) I keep it locked while driving and that mitigates the issue.

Any recommendations?

Verify that there is absolutely nothing in the way, including around and behind the seal. If it is indeed closing properly and latching (try to tug it up before getting in drive, perhaps), then could something be activating the unlock button/mechanism from the fob or in the car?
