The harmonic balancer/ pulley bolt worked its way loose on my '04 2.5 engine. It buggered the threads on the bolt and I'm sure has messed up the outermost threads inside the crankshaft. Any hints on using a tap to clean up the threads inside the nose of the crank? I think its a 13mm 1.5 pitch, right? I'm not gonna' pull the engine so will proceed slowly by hand. Locally I can buy the tap from Fastenal for $61 and a week of shipping.
I read one suggestion to turn my bolt into a type of tap by rounding the nose and cutting two grooves through the threads. I tried that and no luck.
Anyone got a better way to go?
