CarPlay overrides radio when plugged in

In my 2020 Outback, all of a sudden this week when I plug in my IPhone to the car, if the radio is playing, the car switches to CarPlay. If I switch it back to radio, it plays for 5-8 seconds and then forces it back to CarPlay.

So I can’t listen to the radio and charge my phone and/or use my Google
maps app from my phone. I can only listen to the radio if the phone is not plugged in.

Any suggestions?
