Hit 3K mi in 07' Imp, and the brakes are Finally starting to give me
confidence. Starting to Feel like Brakes !! Temps were in the high
90's, so would think they would feel worse if anything, but could feel
them dragging the the car down from speed, as if the emergency was on
a few clicks. I don't use the car that often, just on trips, and the
rotors will start to rust. Figure that will shorten pad life, but keep
them from glazing. The better braking feel hides some of the soft, low
pedal feel, and not make the brakes feel like they have been oiled. I
started dropping the clutch before staring the brake, and that was
helping decelerating, since cars don't heel over when taking your foot
off the gas like the old days, before emission controls, that keep the
mixture optimum so they don't run too rich, but Now they are starting
to feel like brakes.
All my cars have either come with over sized brakes, or I had ordered
them when they were an option. I had thought 10+" rotors on a 3K lb
car would be pretty good, especially since I can't drive as fast as I
used to, but these brakes were Scary in heavy highway traffic, that
made me want to double the normal comfortable distance I leave behind
the car in front, and extra for a van, SUV, or car with tinted
windows, where I can't see what is happening ahead of them, and if I
can I will move to where I have a longer view. Now there is hope that
they Might get Even better.. Wouldn't That Be Sweet.... Might not need
to change the dual stage booster, which means also changing the M
Cyl, till the M Cyl quits. Was going to try to find softer pads.
I can hear The Darwin Twins saying Softer Pads, You Are Nuts!!! Best
braking I got with the car with the best brakes, was when I went for
El Cheapo pads, because the car was dying, and had 150K on it. Had to
learn how to work the brakes all over again. The car was stopping Much
shorter than it ever had. I was driving it 10-15mph faster than I had
been, and the first stop for a light on the highway, with my usual
pedal effort, the car stopped 6 car lengths shorter than it used to.
The pads only lasted 17K, but I'll take Better braking Any day.
