I have been troubleshooting the Brake Vacuum pump not kicking on. I verified it works by connecting 12 volts to it. Also, verified I have power running to the pump when I start the vehicle if the pump is not connected. I ran jumpers to the connector on the car to the pump. As soon I connect the pump I loose voltage and the pump does not kick-on. In desperation, I have replaced the vacuum pump switch, vacuum pump, and booster and still the problem exists.
Why would the power turn off as soon as I hook up the vacuum pump?
I have been messing around with this for months. Subaru told nothing is wrong, but I didn't have the patience to go back and forth with them. When you start the car you have to be real careful because the brakes suck until the engine vacuum builds up. I have isolated it to the power to the pump not working when it is connected to the pump. All input is appreciated.
