Android Auto And Motorola Phone

anyone having a problem with a motorola phone not being able to connect to the car by way of android auto?
our new legacy had no problem with our galaxy 9. the motorola phone WILL connect via blutooth for google play etc, but even though android auto is installed on the motorola phone, car will net recognize it...
