Hey this is my first time posting here, I have used the forum many times for info gathering so I appreciate any advice in advance.
My passenger side CV axle has been leaking gear oil pretty bad onto the exhaust which makes a total smoke show everytime I drive (I check the fluid daily and fill as needed since this has happened). Went to repair/replace today and I got the axle off pretty simple. Breaker bar on the axle nut, popped the roll pin out from the top, unclipped some sensors and moved the air tube out of the way for access.. came right out.
The stub shaft is still on the front diff/transaxle and I don't see any easy way to remove the stub shaft. The only reason I would remove the stuby would be to re seal the cv axle shaft seal.
I am wondering are these seals built into the tranny? Is there an easy way to get the seal out (and the new OEM one back in) with the stub shaft still in place? Or what would be the correct way to solve this issue. I don't see how to get the stub shaft out with the CV axle already removed. I feel like I'm missing something here.
I have pulled the motor on this car twice and I do all the maintenance myself. have owned it for a long long time it's not glamorous but I love my little subi. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
