I have less than 3,000 miles on my new car and experienced a flat in rear tire caused by a screw. It appeared as a slow leak at first & I had air added and drove a few miles and within a week it was flat again. So my question is should I keep the patched tire or buy a new one? Is there going to be no significant tread loss at 2,500 miles? So if I replaced it now I would not have to replace all 4? Thanks

Yes. But now I'm thinking I have a less secure tire. This is just about peace of mind. And if I was going to replace it, at such a low mileage, would I be able to just buy one tire? I know that with AWD the tread should be even.

That is correct but if the patch is holding air...carry on....until it doesnt. Less secure? A well done patch can last life of the tire. What specifically are you worried about?

If you wanna do something more which IMO is a complete waste of money...there is tons of info out there about doing the one tire change for awd...much of it not clearly conclusive. Definitely consensus you can replace all four if ya really wanna waste money.

If ya still worried ...take it to (or consult) dealer or indie shop for "professional" advise.

Thank you. I guess I was worried because the tire wasn't completely flat, so I thought I just needed air, added some and drove it around for a few more miles. And then overnight it went completely flat & when I had it fixed they said it was a screw. I read that a screw causes a lot more damage than a nail, especially if you drive the tire for a few miles before repair. I didn't realize a patch would last the life of a tire. Good to know. Again, thank you.
