2018 Subaru Outback thin windshields

I am on my second windshield in 6 weeks. The second hit was a very small pebble that impacted the windshield below the wiper blades. The impact point was smaller than a pinhead.

I was flabbergasted that such a tiny hit would crack the windshield. I have seen rock chips in many vehicles I have owned over the decades that have not caused a crack to migrate throughout the windshield.

I talked to our local Subaru service manager and he stated that impact damage is not warranted. No flexibility. I told him that I have no confidence in their OEM windshields.

I have 100% glass coverage insurance, however that begs the question of the quality of Subaru windshields. I have scheduled an appointment with Safe Lite Glass, hoping their windshields are of higher quality.

Has anyone had issues with damaged windshields and what was their experience? Is this a safety issue? Should I file a complaint with the NHTSA?

Thanks.

I own Subaru Outback 2020 and my windshield broke 2nd time in 8 weeks by a small rock chip on right bottom of windshield. Is there any link to file a legal process ( lawsuit) to Subaru? and wanted to know how is your replacement windshield, did you like the quality of Safelight windshields?

I have not had an issue with the Safe lite, however I didn't drive the car for over 4 months this summer.

I had the same issue on a 2020 Outback. I am now on my third windshield and I only have 26K miles on my car. I have owned other cars and put over 200K on them without having to replace a single windshield. From what I was told by the authorized dealer windshield replacement person, the windshields are thin to allow the eyesight technology to work. He also thought the angle of the windshield made it more susceptible to chips. In either case, the quality of the windshield is unacceptable. This is a poor design decision by Subaru. I filed a complaint with the NHSA and would recommend you do so as well.
