I have a 2.5L 2017 Outback with 135,000 miles. Recently, the engine sounds like it wants to go into a higher gear at 60 MPH, although the tachometer says it's between 1800 and 2000 RPM. Even when I put it in manual it says I'm in 6th gear. A lot of passengers have said the same thing. What's going on? I thought I would ask here before going to mechanic. The sound seems to be coming from the rear. This is a new issue.

1800 at 60 mph is about right, thats as high as it goes. 2000 would be OK if going up a slight grade with a light load. 6th gear is not an exact gear in a CVT, it is a range of ratios that would be within the 6th gear range.
