2011 OB rear hatch lift struts...

Ours failed a while back & we've been using a STRONG piece of wood to hold that super heavy thing safely open.

Finally found a decently priced pair on fleabay & after their horrid slow shipping I installed them.

1st time shutting the hatch the bottom swivels both snapped right off !!

Now searching for some which may work (the OEM ones are $pendy !!) it looks like they are all made in China & could be equal in quality to the crappy ones that failed instantly.

Anyone here have an experience getting some that won't break the bank & will work & last a good while ??

BTW - Rockauto has the pair for ~$30, but the shipping makes for a total of ~$45.
IMO that is too much for those parts - less than dealer OEM, but still too much.

Looks like one of those instances where you get what you pay for.

Given that most stuff is coming from China these days I doubt very much that the old adage quoted above still holds true.

I did locate another pair via fleabay for ~$22 with free shipping, free returns & (supposedly...) a 3 year warranty.

At least if it is all a pack of lies it may be possible to recover what was spent with only some time & efforts lost.

Not having a garage here in Vermont during this cold spell means I'm in no hurry to get frozen fingers installing them right now, so this slight delay is OK with me.
