Hello all.
I have a 2011 Forester with FB25 engine that was run into the ground due to no oil. I love my kids, really I do. I bought a replacement engine from JDM, but when I got it home I realized it was a later model year because the front cover does not have the correct mounting brackets for the power steering pump or second idler pulley. My research tells me that they went to electric power steering in 2014. So my question is can I swap out the front cover and wiring harness from the old motor and go forward with the swap? Are there any other differences that I need to deal with. This newer motor was mated to a CVT trans so I know I'll have to use my old intake as well.
Thanks in advance for any advise. I'm an experienced mechanic, but this is my first subbie.

Hi Digger any update, I am sourcing an engine for an FB25 2012 Forester and am finding the later engines to be much more affordable,. were you able to swap timing covers or .... thanks

No, I ended up taking it back and getting the correct motor. I still had to get creative with the coolant lines going to the CVT transmission, but was able to make it work. Aside from that, what a wonderfully engineered power plant. Such an easy swap.
