I'm at the end of the rope and am hoping someone has had this issue. Thanks for any help you can give.

For a few years now I have had an ongoing issue where I turn on the engine, it starts, but they dies. The security light flashes intermittently. I have taken my Outback to a number of shops, an independent Subaru mechanic, and a dealer. There have been a number of theories, but nothing has fixed the issues. Each time i have brought it in, the shop has thought they have fixed it, but then after a period of time the issue happens again. It will die once, but I'm able to start it. After awhile it will happen more often until ultimately I can't start the car at all and have to have it towed to a mechanic. Here is a list of what has been tried:

Tightening the cables. Often the thought has been that the battery cables are too loose. Tightening them has seemed to work sometimes.

Replacing the battery.

Reprograming the keys.

In my last attempt I took it to an independent Subaru shop. They found DTC P1578 stored in ECM, Meter Failure. The diagnostic tree suggested replacing the BIU or ECM. They replaced the BIU and I took it home, but after about 3 weeks the problem started to happen again. They then replaced the ECM. I took it home and drove it for a week or so, but the problem happened again. I towed it to the shop and they took it to the dealership. The dealer felt it was a loose battery cable. They tightened the battery cable and I was able to drive it home, but then it happened again a few weeks later.

The car is now sitting in my driveway, and I don't know if there is an easy solution that is just being missed or it is time to cut my losses...

I would really appreciate any advice or insights. Thank you!
