2006 Impreza wrx whining

I own an 06 wrx and I just started hearing a whining (almost like a lightly rubbing tire) sound while in drive but only while moving. I assume it is a transmission issue because when in neutral and coasting the sound goes away. It gets louder as speed increases. But what really confuses me is that the sound sometimes goes away while turning left. I have checked the wheel bearings for play and I’ve checked the wheels for any rubbing points but I’ve found no problems. If someone could point me in the right direction I’d greatly appreciate it.
