2001 Outback LL Bean foglights/headlights issue

Has anyone figured out how to have the foglights in an Outback on with
the parking lights only and no headlights?

I was able to have my foglights on without headlights in my old '92
Pontiac Grand Am; it seems that all American cars (GM,Ford,Dodge, and
many others) are wired with this light combination option available;
except for the American designed Subarus.

I have already 'pulled the plug' on the DRL lights.

and btw, no trolls please. I have seen trolls with non-helpful insulting
comments about issues like these.

Thank you.

Just to expand the readership - try posting your question on
www.nasioc.com and www.usmb.net . I suspect what you want is rare but
probably has been done by someone.

It's common on the JDM GT Legacy (I have it on my 02 and it was on my
90) but I haven't been able to lay my hands on a circuit diagram yet.

I have the schematic for the '95 Legacy. I have just added the OEM Fog
Lights for the car and it appears that a Blue wire with a yellow tracer is
attached at a single wire connector from the headlight circuit. This wire is
hot when the headlights are on. That allows power to go to the fog lamp
relay. That is what allows you to only have the fog lights on with
headlights. IF you can locate this wire on your car and move it to the
parking light power source (one of the parking lamps), then I suspect that
you could make it work. BUT then you would only have the capability to run
the fog lamps if the parking lights were on. SO if you drive with the
parking lamps on, you are all set. Another possibility would be to put a
single pole-double throw toggle switch so that you could select where and
when you wanted the power to come from. One side would come from Headlamps
and the other from parking lamps. Those power feeds could then be directed
to the fog lamps relay coil.

THAT is how it is on a 95. Not sure about your 01, but maybe that gives
you some ideas/options.

Good Luck
Bill
