hi,
i have 2000 obs (us impreza model), with 2.2l engine. i have recently
noticed a noise from the car that is in step with the engine speed (not car
speed), and at first i suspected that it's the loose heat shield, but
opening up the hood, i found that it is coming from the valve covers (or
thereabout). it's high-pitched, hollow metallic sound, like something light
is loose and slapping in step with engine speed. it's not loud - i have to
concentrate to hear it from inside the car, and, perhaps only at times. is
this the lifter noise? i didn't think this model had lifters (sohc engine,
i think it is). piston slap? the noise is not like diesel engine.
i would appreciate any info/tip. thanx,
