Hello. I recently bought an 04 Forester XT and I really like it. The
stock "premium" sound system sounded pretty good, but I wanted a direct
aux input for my MP3 player so I replaced it with an inexpensive Aiwa
head unit with an input on the face. That works well, but the kit that
came from Crutchfield didn't have anything to match one of the
connectors that went into the old head. I hooked up what matched, and
everything seems to work except the sub woofer (in a storage compartment
near the back hatch), so I imagine the extra plug (black with 8
contacts) probably went to that sub.
After talking to Crutchfield and sending them photos, they still don't
know exactly what I've got. I'm pretty sure this sub is an option, but I
bought the car used so I just have a second-hand source on that
information. It does say Forester on the cover, so it's from Subaru.
So I'm wondering if any of you have come across the same thing and might
have figured out more than I have so far. I'd like to be able to connect
my head unit's preamp outs to it if possible and buy as little
additional stuff as I can. Anyone done this or have any suggestions or
other sources of information? Thanks!
