I’ve been told by Subaru and my mechanic that I need new brakes front and rear. I have 53,000 miles on a 2021 Crosstrek Limited. Shouldn’t a brake light come on my dash if I need it ? Does that sound about right for brakes? They’re also telling me I need new tires. Thanks

The brakes they install these days is crap because in order to save weight time to meet CAFE standards they are too light to be resurfaced.
Not just Subi but the entire auto industry in America.
This is what happens when gubberment is allowed to run amok and mess around where they have no business messin around.

new brake pads maybe lol. if anything else in the brake assembly was really bad you would be able to notice it while driving. a stuck caliper would drag you around the road, smoke, or at least grind. warped rotors would cause heavy vibration while braking. dealers usually just have a book where they replace xyz parts at xyz amount of kms whether you need it or not. its a ripoff. if you have bi-yearly inspections where you live itll catch things like that. imo ask them to show you how exactly its worn out. and ask yourself how much you trust your mechanic lol

Mechanics are nearly all thieves from y experience. Best to collect a few quotes and see if they're all similar.

I do not think that the brake light on the dash has anything to do with worn pads/rotors.

All sounds perfectly right. Get er done. Your tires are definitely shot.

Tire pics and measurements would be helpful. For brakes, it is nearly impossible that they're all worn out at the same time.

My response was appropriate for contents of the OP. ;-)

And for the record i always top off using only synthetic zero ethanol blinker fluid!!

Fortunately, I have one that is quite the opposite. Sometimes I've even had to force money on him.
When I move, he'll be sorely missed.
He only works on Toyota and Subaru made products and he's very much a stickler for doing things right.

They're out there, for sure, but they're not the norm. We, strangely, have a Meineke that is excellent and 15 minutes away.

Tires are usually 20 - 30,000 miles or 6years.
Rear brakes usually go first, but it's possible both need to be done.
A lot depends on where you travel. Urban stop and go driving will use up the brakes much faster than mostly highway driving. The post from someone else, stated that the rear brakes wear out first... Wrong... the front brakes do most the the work not the rear brakes.

You are gonna wanna research that one when it comes to Subarus...rears wear faster. Contrary to conventional thinking.
